Description

GREENHILL 1. 1625 (North Side) ST 6316 1/107 28.11.50. Antelope Hotel - including southern part of rear wings II GV 2. Opened 1748. 6 window front, 2 storeys and attics. New plaintile roof, new dormers. Good moulded and coved cornice with kneelers at ends. Sash windows have segmental heads and keystones, those to first floor retaining wide glazing bars. Stone plinth. Projecting stone porch with Tuscan columns. 6-panelled door in frame. (See G.H.D. Pitman, "Exploring Sherborne," p 48, for further information eg about Parson Woodeforde). Rear wing to east of inn yard of 2 storeys and attic, 3 window bays. Slate gabled roof with 3 hipped dormers. Front of brick and stone rubble. Three 2-light segmental headed casements; at right hand end with lead glazing. Round-headed arcading to openings on ground floor. Rear wing to west of yard of 2 storeys and attic. Plaintile roof with 2 hipped dormers facing on to court. Stone rubble wall. One 2-light window on first floor. All the listed buildings on the North Side of Greenhill from Newell Cottage to Belmont: and on the South Side from Delta to premises occupied by Godden and Curtis form a group.
