House at end of terrace. 1823-1827. By Morris Clarke and George Cox (RCHME). Rendered, slate roof. A narrow-frontage double-depth plan with dogleg rear staircase and lower service wing. The house is slightly higher than and stepped forward from No.19 (qv), and its elevation corresponds with No.2 (qv) at the beginning of the terrace. 3 storeys, 1 window; a small flat-roofed dormer above a 3-storey bow with 8:12:8-pane sashes and dentil cornice at ground and first floors. To the left at second floor is a blind light, and at ground floor an arched doorway with voussoirs and keystone, with a plain fanlight and reeded transom to panelled door. Plat-bands above ground and first floors, a thin moulded cornice, plat band and parapet, returned at the left-hand end, and a deep brick stack with clay pots to the right party wall. The rear has a large C20 dormer behind a parapet, and the rear wall has 12-pane sashes. INTERIOR: not inspected. The end house in the last of the formal terraces at the N end of the Esplanade. The terrace may possibly have extended to the right, where 2 later houses, Nos 21 & 22 (not included), now stand.
