1. 865 CHURCH LANE (East Side)
Gateway or South front to former almshouses (formerly listed as Municipal Buildings)
ST 8806 1/5 27.10.50. II GV 2.
The front originally belonged to Almshouses built in 1736 to replace some destroyed by fire. The Almshouses have now been re-built elsewhere. The front is of the same greenish stone as the Church, It has a pedimented gable with a round window. The lower storey has an arcade of 3 bays, the centre arch semi-circular, the others segmental. Over the latter are sunk panels with now illegible inscriptions. Projecting imposts and keystones. Pavement of knapped flint.
No 5 and the Gateway form a group with the Church.
