Listed Building: DOWER HOUSE (101937)

The following building shall be added to the list: SZ 0696 & SZ 0796 BOURNEMOUTH WIMBORNE ROAD SZ 0896 & SZ 0996 (south side), Kinson 6/168; 18/168 No 1300 (Dower House) GV II Dower house to Ensbury Manor, now house. Late C18; altered C19 and C20. Brick, pebble-dashed, rendered and painted; plain tiles to front roof pitch, otherwise late C20 concrete tiles, some Welsh slate to outshut. 2 storeys with attic, 3 bays with 2-storey wing to rear right, outshut to rest of rear, and single- storey wing to rear left. Central door of 6 raised and fielded panels below fanlight with radial glazing bars, all in reveal; wooden doorcase has archivolt and pilasters on wreath-decorated plinths with console-bracketed capitals supporting open dentilled pediment. Flanking C19 4-light canted bay windows with sash windows (of 9 panes to upper sashes) and hipped, plain tile roofs. Flush 4-pane sashes to 1st floor with keystones and Phoenix fire insurance plaque between the two on right. 3 hipped dormers with 6-pane sashes. Corniced brick end stacks. Rear: horned 12-pane sash to 1st floor of left wing; right wing, formerly outbuilding, has a C19 2-light casement window, a mid-C20 window and a board stable door on right. Right return: main range has a horned 12-pane sash to each floor. Wing had render incised as ashlar, a mid-C20 door with side-windows, and a 12-pane casement above in a wider architrave; stack at right end. Interior: rear left-hand wing has large fireplace, formerly with bread oven, and queen-strut roof truss. Main range has central full-height closed-string, dog-leg stair with square-section balusters and newels; in the attic the beams have roll-moulded arrises and there is a centre-folding board door at top of the stair with old hinges, and similarly-hinged door to one of the attic rooms.
