Baptist Chapel
II
Baptist chapel. c1815, altered c1879. Brick with terracotta dressings and slate roof. Rectangular plan. Entrance gable has slightly recessed corners, with late C19 terracotta moulded pediment containing an oculus dated 1815, over a triple round-arched window with architrave, keys and imposts; late C19 porch has a similar moulded pediment supported by pilasters, to a mid C20 doorway with architrave to a 2-leaf 8-panel door. Original 3-door entrance blocked, the central doorway obscured by the porch. INTERIOR: refitted and S gallery rebuilt, with organ recess and vestries at W end c1879. Organ 1839 by TJ Duncan of London, said to have come from St Paul's, Poole. HISTORICAL NOTE: replaced a previous chapel of 1735, which is marked by a plaque.
