Description

SY 88SE 8/95 COOMBE KEYNES The Fort, on the Lake II Folly. Probably c1851. Rubble stone walls with brick dressings, and flat roof. Circular battlemented tower on a circular platform built out into the lake. Tower of one storey, with four openings with four-centred arched heads - that on the landward side with doors, the others shuttered. String courses above openings and below battlements. Circular platform paved with square tiles; low stone boundary wall to this, raised on the landward side to form an archway with iron gates. Brass cannon formerly on platform now removed and stored.
