Description

BURLESTON SY 79 SE 9/9 The Old Rectory 26.1.56 GV II Former rectory, now private house. Early C18 north wing and a later C18 main south range at right angles. North range has rendered walls, slate roof and tall C18 brickstack rebuilt. 2 storeys and attic. 3 windows, wood casements with glazing bars. French window, C20 metal towards north end. C19 plank door on north end wall. South range has rendered brick walls and a plat band. Brick eaves-cornice. Clay tile roof, hipped. No stack on south ridge, stack on rear wall, eaves. Two storeys and attics. 3 windows, sashes with glazing bars, wood frames, stone cills. Attic has a 3-light wood casement with glazing bars. Front door at centre, flush-panelled with 3 upper lights. C18 Gothic clustered side-pilasters and an entablature with cusped arcading. Interior: north range at north end has an open fireplace with brick jambs and chamfered wood lintel. Bread oven in right hand side. South range, the front staircase has latticed banisters and a moulded handrail. (RCHM Dorset III p54(2)) Listing NGR: SY7766694280
