8/144A Greys Bridge (that part in the Parish of Stinsford)

Road bridge over River Frome. Early-mid C18 - built for Laura, widow of George Pitt of Kingston Maurward (qv) d1750. Ashlar stone structure, with 3 moulded round arches, and pointed cutwaters. Double plat band above arches. Weathered coping. Parapets stepped out each end - possibly to form pedestrian refuges. Plaque on parapet threatening transportation for life for anyone found guilty of wilfully damaging the bridge. 7 & 8. George IV signed T Fooks. Metal plaque on other parapet with initials MB, B of D (for Borough of Dorchester) 1835. This presumably a repair date. Part in the Civil Parish (formerly Borough) of Dorchester.
