Description

SY 3693 CHARMOUTH THE STREET, SOUTH SIDE 8/28 Congregational Chapel 5.9.60 G.V. II Congregational Chapel. Tablet on northgable: "founded 1689, rebuilt 1815 "founded 1689, rebuilt 1815, restored 1866, restored 1963". Stone walls, rendered. Asbestos slate roof with pedimented gable end to street. North elevation: 2 storeys, 2 windows wide with round heads. Wooden window frames with Y tracery. Small lozenge leaded panes with green and yellow rippled stain glass. Main door at centre, 2 leaf with a round-head and Y tracery fanlight. 6-panel door with panelled jambs. The east wall is buttressed; both east and west walls contain round- headed windows. The interior is plain with a gallery on 4 slim iron columns at the north end. Reeded pilasters and arch over at the south end, in wood, plain imposts. Reading desk, wood with convex panelled front, early C19. 2 Memorial Tablets on north wall. "RCHM, Dorset I", p 88 (2). Listing NGR: SY3662993642
