2. Late C18 or early C19. Red brick. 2 storeys. L-shaped block. Frontage of No 27 is set back and has parapet with stucco pilasters and sunk stucco panels, rectangular and lozenge-shaped. Doorway and ground floor windows are round-headed and are set in sunk arched panels. Screen wall has pointed doorway. No 29 which abuts on road, has similar parapet. 2 elaborate mid C19 shop windows have moulded pilasters with capitals incorporating flowers, animals and birds. Foliated cast iron mullions. Fascia boards have scrollwork in angles and that facing road has a cresting of scroll work and vine pattern. Rear has sash with Gothick glazing bars and stained glass. Interior has spiral cast-iron staircase and other contemporary fittings. Shopfront was apparently built for a tailor in 1845 and has always been a local curiosity.
Nos 17 to 35 (odd) form a group.
