2. Rebuilt at various periods, most recently 1824, by Francis Giles.  2 parallel moles.  Huge ashlar blocks, partly revetted with iron and re-inforced concrete. Concrete blocking course round edges.  Remainder of harbour walls have huge timber piles (some with iron driving rings round top) instead of the iron revetment, all bolted to a timber land-tie.  Wooden landing ladders at intervals all the way round. Slipway at east end with iron drawbridge for pedestrians. Modern bridge over weir on north side. Some stone drains:  original stone paving shows through tarmac in parts.
