Description

Observations after soil stripping on the south side of Swanworth Quarry with the permission of Tarmac Ltd. An area approximately 150 m by 15 m immediately behind the existing quarry face had been stripped by machine. Three archaeological features were noted: the base of a stone-lined pit or cist; a sub-circular area of dark grey clay, possibly the remains of a shallow pit; a linear feature.
