Description
During summer 1987, a watching brief was undertaken by Wessex Archaeology during topsoil stripping in advance of the construction of the Dorchester By-pass. An excavation had taken place in the western part of this area, investigating a known ring-ditch soilmark. Further parts of this ring-ditch and three other ring-ditches were exposed and investigated during the subsequent watching brief. The results were published together (1).
Further to the east, a small number of medieval and post-medieval field boundary ditches were recorded.
