Description

An archaeological evaluation in advance of the final development phase on the site of the former Maud Road School was carried out in November 1996 by AC Archaeology. The investigation involved the excavation and recording of four machine-dug trenches. Trench 2 measured 10m (N-S) by 1.5m (E-W) and was excavated by machine through tarmac, 0.35m of rubble hardcore, 0.25m of sterile subsoil, to a total depth of 0.65m on to the top of a weathered natural chalk surface. Two modern features were recorded. No artefacts were recovered from the trench or spoil heap.
