Description
An archaeological investigation was carried out during April 1995 at the Trumpet Major, Dorchester. Two test pits representing a 50% sample of the area to be disturbed, were hand dug in the area of the conservatory extension along the south facing frontage of the building. These test pits were within the area of previous archaeological work by Wessex Archaeology in 1997.
Both test pits showed extensive disturbance with associated modern debris for the whole of the depths of the profiles. A flint flake and core were recovered from residual contexts. The implication is that the archaeology had been truncated by earlier terracing.
