Description

On the west side of a service trench from outside 8 Friary Lane as far as No. 12, Christopher Sparey Green observed a layer of dark grey soil containing mortar rubble, flint rubble and limestone roof tile debris which appeared to be from a Roman building rather than from later structures. This Roman building rubble was beneath a 0.45m thick layer of disturbed ground down to a depth of 0.7m below street level.
