Description

The construction of an extension to County Hall during 1984 provided an opportunity for Wessex Archaeology to further examine an area of Colliton Park first examined during the initial construction of County Hall in 1937-9. The excavation area lay to the south of a late Roman aisled building recorded during the 1937 excavation. It was found however, that during the construction of County Hall, some 1.5m of Chalk bedrock had been removed and any remaining archaeological features totally destroyed
