Description

A junior member of the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society, Christopher J. Green, made important discoveries as a result of observation and trial excavation mainly since 1963. One of these discoveries, observed in building works behind Messrs. Boots in South Street (69219066) in 1965, was a length of street, which continues the line of the N-S street found in 1937 at Skyrme's workshops behind Messrs. Thurman's, High West Street. The metalling, at least 16ft wide, was traced northwards for some 21ft. The end of the handle of a bronze skillet, perhaps a military mess tin, was found below the metalling [1].
