Description
The Dorchester Roman Aqueduct was sectioned at three points by W. Miles Barnes in order to test the hypothesis put forward by Major Coates that this earthwork represented a Roman water supply to the Town of Durnovaria [2].
Cutting B was located at Combe Bottom, Bradford Peverell. The aqueduct was shown to be cut in to the chalk and approximately 6 feet wide at the base with almost perendicular sides. The fill was fine earth at the base, containing what appeared to be clay. Flints were intermingled with the soil at the top of the fill [2].
