Description

In digging the foundations of the Dorset County Museum in 1880, an underground passage was found running NNE-SSW. The lower part of the passage was cut in the solid chalk, but the depth was not ascertained. About 2ft of the height of the sides comprised flints laid in mortar. These walls were set back 6ins on each side [1].
