Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken at Cooper’s Cookers (a.k.a. Cooper's Wholesale), Grove Trading Estate, Dorchester during groundworks associated with the construction of proposed industrial units 1-3 in the southeast part of the site. Three trenches were observed. Trench 2 was excavated along the southern edge of the property to locate an existing modern drain. It lay immediately west of Trench 1. It measured about 8m long by up to 2.5m wide. It was excavated to a depth of 1.5m on to the natural chalk. No archaeological features were observed and the trench was immediately backfilled. The ground level of this area had been significantly raised by modern infill.
