Description
A Romano-Celtic brooch of AUCISSA found in September 1939 during the digging of air raid trenches on the S side of the part to MAX GATE and c. 35 yards NE of the N wing of the school buildings at SY69728989. As a type it belongs to the early 1st century AD but it may have continued to be made throughout the 1st century.
A field survey was conducted on the site by J. Rigg. of the Ordnance Survey Archaeological Division on the 21 August 1954. His field notes are recorded on the OS record card as follows.
The area is covered with filled in and partly filled in air raid trenches. There were no surface finds. The brooch was seen in Dorset County Museum. [1]
