Description

A site visit was conducted by J. Rigg of the Ordnance Survey Archaeological Division on the 1 September 1954 at the site of the discovery by Ian Ellis, in 1940-3, of a hoard of 4th century Roman coins between the inner and outer Ramparts near the NW corner of Poundbury Camp, Dorchester. His site notes are recorded in the OS record card as follows. Ian Ellis could not be contacted during field investigation. The area is under grass and there were no surface finds. Some of the coins were seen in the County Museum.
