Description
Wessex Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation and excavation along the line of the A37 Western Link road in advance of road construction, between Autumn 1987 to March 1988.
Trench B was a small trial trench excavated immediately west of Trench A, to further investigate the ditches exposed in the northern end of Trench A. The three ditches aligned E-W found in the north part of Trench A were all traced in Trench B, though the southernmost one terminated in a butt end in this trench. In addition a series of small rounded intercutting scoops were found, which are thought to have been a series of quarry scoops for chalk.
