Description

Wessex Archaeology conducted an archaeological watching brief on land at St Anthony’s Convent, Sherborne during groundworks for the construction of new houses during April-May 1998 and February 1999. Three late post-medieval features were observed. These included an 18th-19th century pit in the area of house 2, a 19th century dump in the area of house 6 and a 20th century pit in the area of house 1. the area of house 13 had been disturbed and made ground existed to a depth of 2 to 2.3m. The remainder of houses 8 to 12 were not observed due to previous disturbance by school buildings.
