Description

Bournemouth University undertook an evaluation of a site at the western end of the garden of The Rectory, South Street, Bridport, on land proposed for housing development, in 1996. This followed an earlier desk-based assessment. Four Trenches (I-IV) were excavated: two 5x1m trenches, one 4x1m trench and one 2x1m trench. Trench I was 5x1m across. Two features were exposed. At the northern end was a pit, part filled with stone and brick rubble. This was interpreted as a post-medieval soakaway. To the south was a small pit or posthole, probably a modern gardening feature. (1)
