EDO5219 - The Rectory, South Street, Bridport; evaluation (Trench III) 1996

Bournemouth University undertook an evaluation of a site at the western end of the garden of The Rectory, South Street, Bridport, on land proposed for housing development, in 1996. This followed an earlier desk-based assessment. Four Trenches (I-IV) were excavated: two 5x1m trenches, one 4x1m trench and one 2x1m trench. Trench III was 4x1m across and aligned roughly N-S. It was dug in an area close to some mature trees and there was significant root disturbance. The edge of a single pit was found in the NE corner of the trench, which produced a piece of post-medieval roof tile. (1)
