Description
Observations and recording during the construction of a new underground tank and lay-by. A trench about five metres square and up to about 8m deep was excavated by machine immediately adjacent to the harbour. The only feature observed was a substantial NE-SW aligned linear feature, possibly a palaeochannel, measuring about one metre deep, which was exposed at a depth of about two metres below the ground surface in the southeast corner of the trench. This feature was cut into the alluvial clays. No finds or other dating evidence was recovered from this watching brief.
