Description

AC archaeology undertook an archaeological evaluation of the site of a proposed Tourist Information Office on South Street, Bridport in June 2000. This comprised the excavation of two 2m by 2m machine trenches within the footprint of the proposed building on the South Street frontage. (1) (2) Trench 1 measured 2m by 2m across and revealed natural deposits at a depth of 0.33m, beneath a buried soil and modern deposits. A recut ditch running NE-SW was found cut into the natural. Some late 12th/early 13th century pottery was recovered from this feature. (2)
