Description
AC archaeology undertook an archaeological evaluation of a plot of land adjacent to South Mill Lane, New Zealand, Bridport in advance of a proposed car park extension during September 2003. Four machine-dug trenches totalling 22.5 m in length were excavated. (1) (2)
Trench 4 was positioned in the northeastern portion of the site. It was 5m by 1.5m across, aligned E-W. The trench revealed a 0.5m thick layer of topsoil above a silty clay natural subsoil. Two modern pits containing concrete rubble were found cut into the natural. These probably relate to the early 20th century industrial buildings which were formerly in this part of the site. (2)
