Description
Following an archaeological evaluation by AC archaeology in 2000,an excavation of a 5m by 5m area was excavated by AC archaeology in April 2001, followed by a watching brief during the digging of the footings in April/May 2001.
The excavation revealed further traces of the early medieval ditch found in Evaluation Trench 1. Another medieval ditch running E-W was found running along the northern edge of the trench. The relationship between the two ditches is not recorded. Other features included a small shallow rectangular posthole and a possible tree hole.
The watching brief revealed part of another ditch probably running E-W in the SE corner of the footings for the new building.
