Description

Following demolition of the outbuilding, the deposit sequence consisted of a variety of modern layers overlying the natural clay, including concrete, garden soil, and limestone paving slabs overlying a modern brick drain lining. The site stratigraphy in the northern part of the development site consisted of a modern make-up layer covering natural clay. The rear (south) of the site was terraced prior to the construction of the original building. This activity may have removed any archaeology that might have been present, and may explain the lack of any definitively dated medieval or earlier material.
