Description

An archaeological evaluation carried out by Bournemouth University for Brian Tomlinson Associates on behalf of a client in connection with planning application 2/2002/0723 for demolition of 8 Love Lane and erection of two houses. Three trenches were excavated by machine. No archaeological features were observed. A few (<10) sherds of nineteenth/early twentieth century pottery were recovered. This, and the rich and well-turned nature of the topsoil, was felt to be consistent with the use of the site as allotments as late as 1901. The excavator concluded that in general the grounds of No 8 had been disturbed on a number of occasions, not least by the creation of a building platform for the cottage, and construction of a car parking area adjacent to Love Lane.
