Description
AC Archaeology conducted an archaeological watching brief to the rear of 4 to 6 Cheap Street, Sherborne during groundworks for a housing development in April 1998.
The work comprised the monitoring of footings and service trenches for an extension to the rear of the existing building to form three flats. A large portion of the northern part of the site had been previously truncated and filled in as made ground. There was extensive evidence for medieval and later quarrying to the rear of the existing building. The western part of the site was also levelled during the post-medieval period (1).
