Description

Terrain Archaeology carried out a watching brief during construction of a cycleway between Clandon Farm, Martinstown, and Maiden Castle Road. The construction consists of resurfacing the track with a new stone surface. The route was first excavated down to between 200 and 400mm, using a toothless grading bucket. A geotechnic membrane was placed over this level, and covered with a stone hoggin surface. No confirmed archaeological finds or features were identified during this works. A potentially archaeological feature found was a continuation of a Middle Bronze Age dyke, idicated by a slight rise in the chalk.
