Description

AC Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation for ECC International, immediately to the south of a Bronze Age round barrow located on Trigon Hill. Four trenches were laid out with a total area measuring 145.5m², which represents 6% of the study area. The four trenches were machine excavated using a JCB 180º excavator equipped with a 1.5m wide toothless grading bucket. The trenches were hand cleaned, and hand excavated, and the spoil heaps scanned for artefacts. The dimensions of trenches 1 to 3 is not given, although Trench 4, the longest on the site, measured 57m long. The excavation revealed no evidence of pre-modern features, finds or deposits in the study area, despite the presence of a Bronze Age barrow in such close proximity.
