Description
Archaeological monitoring was carried out at four locations during the course of engineering works associated with the A37 road improvements, just north of Aldershot. The only area of interest was Area C. a 2 metre wide section was excavated by hand across a low bank and ditch. This bank and ditch forms the historic boundary line between the Parishes of Melbury Sampford, to the west, and Melbury Bubb, to the east. The section through the bank and ditch which was recorded was situated to the west of the former road line. No dating evidence was found in its sealed deposits, but fragments of 19th and 20th century pottery were recovered from the upper fill of the ditch.
