Description

Wessex Archaeology carried out an observation during groundworks in advance of a new byre being constructed. This consisted of stripping the topsoil and digging fourteen pits for concrete foundations. Topsoil was removed using a JCB, over an area c. 18m by 5m. the level of the chalk was also reduced on the upper eastern side of the slope by about 0.3m-0.5m. No archaeological features were observed other than postholes from a modern fence. The pits for foundations were dug approximately a metre square, and were 1m deep. No archaeological deposits were discovered.
