Description

One test trench and eleven test pits were excavated, designated Test Trench 1 and Test Pits 2-12). This was done by way of a mini-digger equipped with a 0.5m wide toothless bucket. Where necessary surfaces were hand cleaned for examination and recording. Test Trench 1 measured 20m by 0.5m and was excavated to a depth of 0.37m. Test Pits 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 each measured 1.5m by 1m. Test Pit 4 measured 3.5m by 1m, Test Pit 6 measured 2m by 1m and Test Pits 11 and 12 both measured 2m by 1m. Lithic artefacts were found in each of the Test Pits, but was most abundant in Test Trench 1 and Test Pits 2, 3, 4, and 5. Most of the sites lithic assemblage was found in Test Pit 4 and included cores, possible microliths, burin spools and debitage from small blade industries. A total of just over 5 kilos in weight of lithic material was recovered from the test trench and test pits.
