Description

An evaluation comprising the excavation by machine of thirteen trenches 1.6 metres wide and 260 metres in total. After an initial review of results, two more trenches were excavated. Topsoil and soil overburden were removed by machine under archaeological supervision, stopping at subsoil or archaeological deposits, which were then cleaned by hand and recorded. Five broad phases of archaeological activity were identified, ranging from Iron Age to eighteenth century.
