EDO5843 - Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme Evaluation Trench 21

Cotswold Archaeology undertook an archaeological evaluation of the route of the proposed Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme between July and December 2012. A total of 47 trenches were excavated in Dorset. Trench 21 was located on Keyneston Down to the north east of Buzbury Rings . It measured 30m by 1.8m. It was positioned to evaluate geophysical anomaly 237, a linear negative anomaly indicative of a former banked feature. No archaeological features were recorded. [1] [2] Trench 21 crossed the line of a dyke running out from Buzbury Rings visible as a soilmark on aerial photos and formerly existed as an earthwork.
