Description
Cotswold Archaeology undertook an archaeological evaluation of the route of the proposed Corfe Mullen to Salisbury Water Transfer Scheme between July and December 2012. A total of 47 trenches were excavated in Dorset.
Trench 21 was located on Keyneston Down to the north east of Buzbury Rings . It measured 30m by 1.8m. It was positioned to evaluate geophysical anomaly 237, a linear negative anomaly indicative of a former banked feature. No archaeological features were recorded. [1] [2]
Trench 21 crossed the line of a dyke running out from Buzbury Rings visible as a soilmark on aerial photos and formerly existed as an earthwork. [3]
The record for this event has been created with support from Wessex Water.
