Description
A second stage of evaluation of the site proposed for a sports pitch, comprising the machine excavation of three trenches. This confirmed the results of earlier work, showing that ground on the western side of the new pitch had been truncated while the eastern side contains a surviving soil sequence where intact archaeological deposits could be expected. The trench furthest to the east (Trench 12) contained two probable pits of Romano-British date.
