Description

Observations and recording during stripping of topsoil from the area of a new quarry. Stone-filled field drains of probable 18th-19th century date were revealed, but no other archaeological features. A significant quantity of worked flint and Late Iron Age/Roman pottery was found in the topsoil. The flint assemblage was thought likely to be of late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date, while limited evidence from the pottery suggested that it may be contemporary with an industrial and settlement site at Blacklands to the west of the present site.
