Description

Recording of construction of a temporary airwave mast took place as a condition of planning consent. Ground reduction was monitored and machined layers and spoil examined for finds. The area of the site was apx 7m by 5m and stripped by excavator with 6 foot ditching bucket to a depth of 12-38cm below the surface. A rubble layer at apx 30cm deep was found comprising limestone pieces including roughly squared ones and grey sandy loam. A modern pipe trench cut this layer north-south. A pathway section was found at the northern end of this trench edged with frogged red bricks. The rubble layer was also cut by a modern pit at the edge of the pathway. No archaeological features were found. The stone layer and pathway were not further recorded.
