Description
A rapid archaeological assessment was carried out following a fire to assist with planning decisions regarding restoration. The fire debris had been cleared and scaffolding erected. Four building phases were identified from late 16th/early 17th century for phase 1, mid 17th century in phase 2, 19th century in phase 3 and 20th century in phase 4. Too little remained of the original house to determine whether it was 2 or 3 roomed. The second phase was a usual arrangement for the date of a three-roomed-and-crossed-passage plan. The position of the fireplace between the hall and inner room was less coomon and the timber-framed chimney was a rare survival. There were two extensions in the 19th century and further alterations in the 20th century. The three floor levels appeared to be original.
