Description
An excavation was undertaken at Bishops Court Farm, Shapwick, as part of the Wessex Water Corfe Mullen to Salisbury water transfer scheme archaeological mitigation. A ring ditch, about 20m in diameter was discovered and excavated. No trace of any features within the ditch was found. It was interpreted as the remains of a round barrow, possibly a disc or saucer barrow. Three undated linear features aligned on a northwest to southeast axis were also identified across the site and were intrepreted as small former field boundaries or agricultural land divisions.
