Description
Observations and recording during groundworks and digging of service trenches for a new toilet and store building. The work was done by mini-digger and by hand. A burial, probably un-coffined, was recorded in the service trench south of the South Door with some human bone revealed but much disturbed by the digging of the trench. A second cut, interpreted as a possible grave, was seen in the south face of the trench to the south east of the first grave. No human bone was present in the section revealed.
A ditch running along the eastern boundary of the churchyard was revealed. It contained an earthenware drain and relatively modern debris. A small pit contained pieces of undressed limestone and a piece of tiled 19-20th century church floor. The report concluded that the construction of the new building was not in an area used for burial but did impinge on a former ditch and bank boundary.
