Description

Observations and recording during demolition of a section of wall and groundworks for its replacement. This included excavation of two test pits approximately 0.7m square to investigate underlying ground conditions. The wall was found to be post-medieval but incorporating some re-used stone of possible, though not certain, Roman date. The wall foundations were dug into undisturbed natural chalk.
