Description

Observations and recording during groundworks for new welfare facilities and a mezzanine floor in the West Tower. A service trench measuring 0.3 by 0.80m was dug by machine from the west door along the edge of the path to the south porch and from there to Nallers Lane. The trench was dug by hand in the area of the west door. No structural or archaeological features of significance were found. No human remains or graves were revealed. The relatively shallow groundworks inside the tower did not reveal any evidence of the crypt reputed to be located there.
