Description

Observations and recording of groundworks for a single-storey rear extension. No archaeological features were observed, but made ground associaed with the present terraced house was seen to overly a medieval soil horizon. This was interpreted as a former garden or horticultural soil and produced a number of sherds of 13-14th-century artefacts, including the greater part of a Laverstock type jug and a scratched ware cooking pot. These vessels were excavated in situ, and were undisturbed by later activities.
